About Us

Established in 2013, we are a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run charity that provides essential hygiene products to organizations that assist the homeless, at-risk, low income and victims of violence.

Our efforts to collect, purchase and distribute personal care products such as soap, feminine care, shampoo, and toothbrushes serve meet basic human needs for individuals and families most in-need throughout Rhode Island.

Mission Statement

The mission of Amenity Aid is to provide personal hygiene products to at-risk and in-need families and individuals.

Why We Serve

Housing services struggle year round to obtain enough personal care products to meet their clients' needs. When hygiene products are out of stock, individuals and families seeking assistance forgo toiletries that are essential to good health and wellness.

Amenity Aid is a unique and valuable resource for these organizations because:

  • Most shelters do not have funding earmarked for hygiene products, and those that do have very little.

  • Community contributions are erratic and items received often don't meet the real demand for products most in need

"The ability to obtain basic personal care necessities is critical to a person’s sense of self, personal respect and level of stress. Feelings of personal degradation have been reported by individuals when they were unable to afford basic household needs."

Why Toiletries?

  • Hygiene products such as soap, toothpaste and deodorant are not covered under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

  • Essential personal care products that we provide are items that cannot be foregone or easily substituted

  • One in three low-income American families struggles to afford basic non-food household goods—including products related to personal care

  • Common coping strategies used by struggling families, such as brushing their teeth without toothpaste or washing without soap, can increase the likelihood of health and wellness issues.
